Geology

Concerning geology the Kalkkögel are very special. The Adolf Pichler Hut stands on the “Ötztalkristallin”, right there where the Kalkkögels’ mesozonal sediments lie on this old bedrock.

This is called a “Kalkauflage” whichcan be found south of the Inntal in the prehistoric rock. At the transitions you litterally stand with one foot in the chalk and with the other in the micaceous granite schist.

Flora

The frequent change of rocks supports a wide variety of plants. Around the Adolf Pichler Hut you can find primroses, yellow alpine poppy and edelweiss.
